Orange Shirt Day Activity
EDSO-Orange-Shirt-Day-Lesson-Plan-1When creating my Orange Shirt Day Lesson Plan, I designed my lesson to be as exciting and intriguing as possible for my grade 4 class. I decided that because it’s a heavy topic for students to learn about, as they are making those connections of the brutality and harshness of what happened to the Indigenous children in the residential schools. I figured that doing a KWL chart and making them do an art activity would be the best way for students to grasp the information, because they are given a light workload and this way they are able to share what the learned. Students are also asked to write a reflection after the lesson is done so that I can develop a better understanding of what students grasped the information and which students may need a little more support.
Diversity Activity
EDPR-lesson-1-Grade-6-TRU-Mini-Lesson-DifferencesWhen creating my Diversity Lesson Plan, I designed this lesson in hopes that I can teach this lesson sometime closer to the beginning of the year for a grade 6 class. I touched on the importance of creating a safe space and environment for all students. For me, it is important that I can have all 30 students feel comfortable in my classroom and feel empowered to express themselves in the ways they want to. This lesson is created to help students understand that everyone is different in their own unique ways and that it is okay to be different. Lastly, throughout this lesson, I also touched on the importance of standing up for their classmates and other students if they see bullying, if they witness privileges, or if they encounter any discrimination that occurs in the classroom or around the school.
