My teaching philosophy around relationship building is centered on the belief that meaningful learning occurs within a positive and supportive classroom community. Building positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues is essential in creating an environment where everyone feels valued and respected. To achieve this, I believe that trust is the foundation to any meaningful relationship. I am motivated to create a safe and respectful environment where students feel comfortable with making mistakes, and taking risks. I believe that trust is built through honesty, transparency, and open-communication. Empathy is also big when it comes to the ability to understand how others are feeling. I believe that practicing empathy involves putting yourself in the shoes of someone else, to build that deeper understanding of others’ perspective and to respond with compassion and kindness. Active listening is also an essential piece when it comes to relationship building. By actively listening to students or colleagues, I am better able to understand their needs, interests, and concerns of others. This allows me to make those adjustments so that I am meeting the needs of all students. Creating positive and supportive classroom community is essential for fostering meaningful learning experiences. I hope to create an environment where all students feel empowered, valued, and heard so success can elevate within the classroom walls.
